Become a Volunteer

Volunteers do so many important jobs! We need volunteers to help with fundraising, organizing events, and spreading the word about our work here at the shelter.

One of the most important jobs for volunteers is walking the dogs at the shelter.  Regular volunteer dog walking hours are Wednesday through Saturday from 11:00 to 3:30 p.m.

There’s a clear procedure for taking shelter dogs for a walk. You’ll find it in the Volunteer Handbook, which will be given to you when you become a volunteer.  Walking the dogs is fun and satisfying, and the procedures are designed to make sure it stays that way for our volunteers and our dogs.

If you’d like to volunteer, we ask that you attend at least one of our regular walk trainings as a guest before you help out. Volunteer Training is conducted the 1st Saturday of every month!  We welcome individuals, groups and families (children must be accompanied by their parent or guardian). Our Volunteer Coordinator will help you schedule a training.

Another important job is cleaning and visiting in the Cat Room. For this job, too, we have a clear procedure detailed in the Volunteer Handbook.
