December proved to be an extremely busy month at our transport hub. The Transport Hub is the facility at the Shelter that helps transport animals in cases of natural disaster or other reasons to move groups of dogs and cats cross country. We provide rest and respite for drivers and pets alike.
Along with our regular repeating transports, we had vans coming through from the Galveston, Texas, area with cats and dogs en route to Washington, DC, and headed toward loving homes. The photo shows their arrival after dark and departure the next morning. Every dog was fed and exercised before turning in for the night with a fresh blanket, and each cat got a clean kennel with fresh food and water.
Once the morning arrived, the dogs were once again walked, and the cats got their transport crates cleaned before being loaded onto the vans to continue their travels. The once-weary drivers were now rested and pleased to find their cargo safe, happy, loaded, and ready to pull out for the day’s journey. This couldn’t happen without our wonderful volunteers who don’t seem to notice the lateness of the hours or the lack of sleep the following morning. It’s all about the dogs and cats!
We also filled vans with Arkansas dogs from the many overcrowded groups from areas like Mountain Home, Hackett, Washington County, and Eureka Springs. These dogs are headed to other states with homes very often anxiously waiting for them. This does not happen on its own. It is through a constant network of reaching out and finding other “No Kill” groups that have space, fosters, or will advertise Arkansas dogs for us to find forever families elsewhere. In the process, we have made a lot of new friends and fabulous memories.
It is with GREAT PRIDE and a lot of HARD WORK during December 2025 that we broke our own record of facilitated the moving of 116 animals to other areas of the country and to better lives in just one month! Join us as we celebrate this accomplishment and ring in 2026!
